A Complete Set of 8 Original Vintage Theatrical Chapter #1 (Dr. Vulcan - Traitor) Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

King of the Rocket Men, the 1949 Fred Brannon science fiction (sci-fi) fantasy serial ("A Republic Serial in 12 Chapters"; "Power-packed Adventure!"; "There's never been such action... such suspense.. such dynamite-charged excitement in Any serial!"; about a group of atomic scientists who suspect a traitor in their midst, so one of the scientists becomes a super hero Rocket Man, and works on exposing the evil "Dr. Vulcan", who has a device that can cause an earthquake, and when the Mayor of New York City refuses to pay a billion dollar ransom, the device is used, and there is an earthquake and massive tsunami in New York City's harbor, which was done by reusing footage from Republic's earlier 1939 disaster movie, "S.O.S. Tidal Wave"!) starring Tristram Coffin (in the title role as Jeff King), Mae Clarke, House Peters Jr., Don Haggerty, I. Stanford Jolley (as Dr. Vulcan), and James Craven. Note that in 1951, this movie was massively edited into the Republic feature film "Lost Planet Airmen", and because it was made two years later, and because it was so condensed that entire characters were lost and major plot elements were eliminated, many collectors see it as a re-edited separate movie, and not as a feature version of a serial, so we list "Lost Planet Airmen" as a separate title, but we don't argue with anyone who sees it as the "feature version" of this serial. Note that in 1966, an entirely different feature version of "King of the Rocket Men" was created for TV distribution.

Important Added Info: Note that full-color chapter 1 cards from this sci-fi serial have always been extremely rare. 18 years ago, we auctioned a complete set of chapter 1 cards, but since that time, we have only auctioned ONE chapter 1 card! We are not 100% certain, but there is an excellent chance that this set is the very same one that we auctioned 18 years ago (and it may well be 18 or more years before we get another complete set).

Condition: good to very good. Seven of the cards have some darkening and smudges around the edges. Several have pinholes around the edges. One has each corner diagonally clipped, but it has only a very slight effect on the image. The title card has a tear in the bottom border and someone performed slight restoration to the border defects without backing the card. The final card, #5, was almost surely in the same condition as the other seven, but it has been restored. The card was likely bleached and flattened, and has had border restoration, without being backed, and it displays really well, which certainly also could be done to the other seven cards (or one could choose to leave them as they are). See our super-sized images to get a good sense of the condition of these cards.
