His father was a bullfighter, and he planned to be the same, but he caught the acting bug! He got his screen name by combining the names of his favorite actors, John Gilbert and Ruth Roland! Because of his Mexican heritage, he often played "ethnic" roles, but he was a leading man in the 1920s, and continued to have starring roles for decades, and he seemingly never aged, looking much the same in the 1950s as he had in the 1920s. And he lived to age 89, passing away in 1994, while almost all of his contemporary male stars passed away in their 50s and 60s (and he, like almost all of them, was a heavy smoker). He must have had incredible genes! Some of his movies include: The Last Train from Madrid, Malaya, and The Sea Hawk Important Added Info: Note that one of the stills is in color. NOTE: On rare occasions, large lots of 9 or more black-and-white stills like this one can sometimes have one or more duplicated stills, but since we only picture 8 of the stills, if there are duplicates, they are likely not pictured. We try to note when this happens, but we may not catch it every time, so please do not bid on such lots unless you can accept this possibility. Condition: good. Most of the stills have varying degrees of pinholes in various areas, minor scuff marks and/or creases, but three of the stills are in pretty good condition. Learn More about condition grades
