An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded German Movie Poster (measures 25 1/4" x 38" [64 x 97 cm]) (Learn More) Aus Eines Mannes Madchenzeit (literally translates to "From a Man's Girlhood"), the 1913 Siegfried Dessauer German silent romantic love triangle drag cross-dressing comedy short (about a young man who cannot find a job so he disguises himself as a woman so that he can work as a maid in a wealthy household, but complications arise when several men in the house fall in love with him, and he falls in love with the owner's daughter and finally gives up his disguise, winning her love but losing his job!) starring Wilhelm Bendow (the German stage play comedy star in his first movie role!), Manny Zeiner, Rudolf Senius, Siegfried Berisch, Olga Engl, and Siegfried Dessauer. Note that this film was distributed by Messter Film. Oskar Messter was an innovative German film pioneer, and in 1896, a year after the Lumiere brothers showed the first film, Messter developed the first Maltese cross projector, opened the first German film studio and opened the second movie theater in Berlin (after the first one opened that same year by the Lumieres themselves). Messter Film was one of the dominant German producers before the rise of UFA, into which it was ultimately merged. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only auctioned one example of this poster before! It is an extremely rare pre-World War II German "country of origin" poster. Virtually no German posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II. Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters! Condition: good to very good. The poster has almost completely separated along the upper vertical foldline with some paper loss (see our image). After linenbacking it should display well. Learn More about condition grades
