An Original 1949 (from the first release of this movie in Japan) Vintage Theatrical Folded Japanese "B2" Movie Poster (measures 20 1/4" x 28 5/8" [51 x 73 cm]) (Learn More) Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan and the Huntress, the 1947 Kurt Neumann action jungle adventure fantasy thriller ("Animal hordes scream vengeance against invading humans!"; "Based upon the Characters Created by Edgar Rice Burroughs"; "Original Story and Screenplay by Jerry Gruskin and Rowland Leigh") starring Johnny Weissmuller (in the title role as Tarzan), Brenda Joyce (as Jane), Johnny Sheffield (as "Boy"), Patricia Morison, and Barton MacLane. Note that Maureen O'Sullivan tired of playing Jane in the Tarzan movies, and in 1943, two Tarzan movies were made with no Jane at all, and in 1945, she was replaced by Brenda Joyce, who played the role in five movies. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning! Note that, immediately after World War II, the U.S. occupied Japan and part of Germany, and many American movies were shown in both countries between 1945 and the end of the occupation. Most of the Japanese posters we have seen from that period and many of the German posters and programs from the same period have a "Motion Picture Export Association" (MPEA) circular printed logo on the poster or program, and apparently this was a program run in conjunction with the U.S. government. Since there were many U.S. servicemen in Japan and Germany at this time, many of these posters and programs have the title written in both Japanese (or German) and in English. Note also that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good. The poster has slight discoloration scattered in some areas from exposure to moisture (although, especially due to the colors of the poster, they are more noticeable on back than on the front). It has pinholes in the corners, and several scuffs and smudges scattered in various areas. This is the kind of poster that responds really well to restoration. It is likely that many or most of the stains can be removed chemically, and after linenbacking with some proper restoration the poster will display well, but bear in mind the rare poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.
