What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. This linen finish poster did not darken nearly as much as most Warner Bros. "linen" half-sheets of this period. There was a 5" tear in the top border that extended into the very top of Flynn's hair, a 9" tear near the middle of the top border that extended horizontally through the "AVI" of "DEHAVILLAND", and a tear in the middle of the right border that extended into the tip of the flag. One extended into the "E" of "ERROL" at top left and creases in the bottom border extended into the bottom blue area and into the "r" of "Bros". The rest of the tears were solely in the blank borders. Other than the above tears described above, the rest of the tears were in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. Many years ago, someone linenbacked the poster (with no excess) and performed restoration to the border tears described above. We are sure that, at that time, the restoration paint matched the borders, but over the years, it has aged differently, and it no longer does (see our image). If I owned this poster, I would surely either have someone touch up the earlier restoration without re-backing it, or else, completely re-back it. Either way, the new owner will have a great rare poster to display on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
