An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Sunset Strip Case, the 1938 (partially held up by censorship, and it did not receive a wide release until 1941 as "Sunset Murder Case"; see below) Louis J. Gasnier Hollywood California romantic love triangle burlesque stripper mystery crime thriller (about a woman in the middle of a love triangle, who takes a job as a stripper because she believes the owner of the club killed her father!) starring Sally Rand ("The world's most famous dancer"), Esther Muir, Vince Barnett, Sugar Kane (a dancer whose given name was "Kathryn Cane"), Reed Hadley, and Henry King and His Orchestra. Note that the behind-the-scenes information about this movie is far more interesting than the movie itself! Sally Rand, the famous "fan dancer" was hired to make this movie, which was completed in 1938 as "Sunset Strip Case" (obviously, the title was meant to have a double meaning). But censors objected to the title (and her presence in the movie, even though it is pretty tame), and while it was initially released by Grand National in 1938 under that title, it was then banned, first in Boston and then in other places. Apparently to try to get "unbanned", the title was changed to Sunset Murder Case, and many original posters and lobby cards were sniped over with the new title, but there are also posters printed with the new title in the printing (and both are considered "first release"). But apparently that did not allow it to have a full scale release in 1938 or 1939. However, we know that in 1941, when the original distributor, Grand National, no longer existed, it did receive another release under the title of "Sunset Murder Case" and that distribution was done by several small studios. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare original 1938 insert from the aborted first release of this movie! Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good. There are glue stains from snipes at top over the woman's body and across the bottom line of the title area (see description). There is a slightly diagonal crease down the center of the poster. The poster is otherwise in generally nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
