Date Sold 3/2/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A 1995 Unfolded Commercial Poster (made to be sold directly to the public; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Forbidden Planet, the classic 1956 Fred McLeod Wilcox science fiction (sci-fi) outer space robot monster thriller ("Amazing!"; "In Cinemascope and Color"; "Based on the story by Irving Block & Allen Adler"; very loosely adapted from William Shakespeare's "The Tempest"; about space men who journey to a distant planet, and they find that all the members of the original expedition have died, except for one man and his daughter, and they have discovered the secrets of a long lost civilization called "The Krell", which dwarfs anything humans have ever discovered, but there is a very dark side to those secrets that is soon revealed) starring Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis, Leslie Nielsen, Warren Stevens, Jack Kelly, Richard Anderson, Earl Holliman (as the cook, who was put in the movie for comic relief), Robby the Robot (billed as "Introducing Robby the Robot"), James Drury, and Frankie Darro (who was inside the robot suit until he was fired early in the production for showing up inebriated and almost damaging the expensive prop). Note that after Robby the Robot appeared in this movie, he had another movie role in "The Invisible Boy", and then he appeared in a slightly modified version as the robot in TV's "Lost in Space". On November 21, 2017, the original "Robby the Robot" was auctioned, and it sold for $5.375 million! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that in 1995, a company called FilmPrints created 100 high quality reproductions of the original style B half-sheets for this film. However, they also went to the trouble of requesting (and receiving) an NSS number from the National Screen Service, and arranged a one-night showing at an art house theater where the posters were displayed in the lobby. So while these are reproductions, they could also be considered to be theatrical re-release posters! This is EXACTLY the same concept that formed the basis of the "Alamo Drafthouse" posters which has been super successful in recent years! Note that when this company was first distributing these posters, they sent some "samples" to dealers, hoping they would place wholesale orders. They stamped these sample copies with their name and address in the left of the bottom border and stamped "SAMPLE ONLY NOT FOR SALE" in Francis' leg. This is one of those samples! Condition: fair. As noted above, this was a sample sent to a dealer, and it has a noticeable stamp on Francis' leg (see above). We don't know if it can be removed, but it surely can't be removed with a simple eraser, and it likely would have to be painted over (or one could choose to simply display it as it is). Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept this unusual defect described above. Learn More about condition grades
