A Photographic Negative (measures 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm]) (Learn More) Our Gang (also known as The Little Rascals or Hal Roach's Rascals) is an American series of comedy short films chronicling a group of poor neighborhood children and their adventures. Created by Hal Roach, the series was produced in various forms from 1922 to 1944. The franchise began as a series of silent short subjects produced by the Roach studio and released by Pathe Exchange. Roach changed distributors MGM in 1927, and the series entered its most popular period after converting to sound in 1929. Production continued at the Roach studio until 1938, when the studio's Our Gang production unit was sold to MGM, which produced the comedies until 1944. As MGM retained the rights to the Our Gang trademark, some of the Roach-produced films were re-released to under the title The Little Rascals, and that name become so well-known that later media (such as comic books) was often released under that name. The Our Gang/Little Rascals franchise has also branched out into features films, books, comic books, games, and more. Important Added Info: Note that this is a "studio-issued" negative. What is it? It was produced by the studio but is not the camera original. It is very high quality and was created in quantity by the studios and sent to media outlets or other places that had need of the very highest quality image for reproduction purposes (in newspapers, magazines, or elsewhere). We have put a scan of the negative that shows the "positive image" (in addition to a scan of the negative image and also a positive image that has had the top right corner PhotoShopped). REMEMBER THAT WHAT YOU RECEIVE WILL BE A PHOTOGRAPHIC NEGATIVE, NOT A POSITIVE IMAGE LIKE YOU ARE SEEING. However, we will provide the winning bidder of this auction that positive image scan that is both high quality and not watermarked (on request to the winning bidder, and only the winning bidder). The negative is in a plastic sleeve (but we removed it and scanned it, so that bidders could see just how high quality it is). It will be sent to the winner of the auction in its sleeve. Condition: fair. There is damage to the emulsion in the right of the top border (see our image). This has India ink numbering at the bottom. In addition to the damage in the right of the top border, this has some dust, light scratches and other minor flaws that could easily be cleaned before printing or retouched after scanning.
