An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style A Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Anchors Aweigh, the 1945 George Sidney Navy Naval sailor military romantic comedy musical ("On waves of song, laughter and romance!"; "There's never been a musical to equal it"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Frank Sinatra (billed as "The Voice" on one of the lobby cards!), Kathryn Grayson, Gene Kelly (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Jose Iturbi, Dean Stockwell, Pamela Britton, 'Rags' Ragland, Billy Gilbert, and Henry O'Neill NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The poster had creases, a few tears, and tiny paper loss along both folds, with pinholes and tears around the edges. There were some stains scattered in the poster, including in Grayson's arms and in the Kelly's cheek and neck at upper left, and Sinatra's forehead. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. Perhaps when the poster was first restored, the restoration paint in those areas was not as noticeable as it is now, but now it is extremely noticeable (see our image). Please read our description above and look at our super-sized image before placing a bid on this poster. Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame.
