A Linenbacked French Advertising Poster (measures 30 1/4" x 46 1/4" [77 x 117 cm]) (Learn More)

La Grande Paix (literally translates to "The Great Peace"), the 1919 French advertising poster promoting an article (or edited book) by H.G. Wells. We suspect that the article/book was printed in multiple parts in a magazine titled "L'oeuvre Edite" (The Edited Work) but we cannot be certain. Note that this poster features Bernard Becan artwork of three dancing women representing the United States, England and France. If anyone knows more about this poster or the article, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
Artist: Bernard Becan
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this French poster, which has great art by Bernard Becan!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had fine surface paper loss on parts of the vertical fold, with some creases, scuffs, and a few tears scattered in the bottom, and some tiny tears and tiny paper loss around the edges. Someone (likely soon after the poster was created) glued a snipe over the bottom right corner. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. Someone many years ago backed the poster onto thin linen with no excess and no restoration, and it surely should be removed from that thin linen and properly re-backed. Please bear this in mind before placing a bid on this poster.
