An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Adventures of Jane Arden, the 1939 Terry O. Morse detective newspaper crime thriller ("That daring girl reporter solves a baffling murder case."; "Based on the popular action cartoon strip!"; "Based on the popular cartoon feature!"; "Based on the comic strip created by Monte Barrett & Russell E. Ross") starring Rosella Towne (in the title role as Jane Arden), William Gargan, James Stephenson, Benny Rubin, and Dennie Moore. Note that the comic strip this movie was based on began in 1928, and in 1937, it was given a radio show as well. This movie was intended to be the first in a series, but that did not happen, for reasons we do not know, because this was apparently a solid B-movie. Also note that star Rosella Towne lived a long life, and passed away in 2014 at the age of 96. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: This was printed by Associated Displays Corporation which was a company based in New York City. Before it was discovered by noted poster dealer/historian Walter Reuben, collectors did not know the name of this company (and thought it to be located in the Midwest), and it is often referred to as the "other company" (and we will continue to refer to it that way, since collectors know it that way). From 1936 to roughly 1941, this company printed its own one-sheets and lobby card sets (and a very few inserts, half-sheets, three-sheets, 40x60s and stills) for three major studio movies (Warner Brothers, Paramount and United Artists, but no other studios). The items almost always feature a tiny legal disclaimer and cast credits only. The posters and lobby cards are from the original release of the movie, and almost always have completely different artwork from the regular studio release. They did this by combining elements from different film scenes onto one poster or card. Sometimes, "other company" posters have images that are the equal of those from the regular studio release posters. Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: fair.
