An Original Vintage Unfolded World War I Poster (measures 22 1/4" x 29 1/2" [57 x 75 cm]) (Learn More) Learn to Adjust Your Respirator, the 1915 U.S. World War I (WWI) war poster ("Learn to adjust your respirator correct and quick"; "Don't breathe while doing it, and this won't happen to you."; "Issued by the Chemical Warfare Service") encouraging soldiers to appropriately use their gas masks, and featuring W.G. Thayer art of a soldier choking on a cloud of poison gas! This poster would have been posted on military bases prior to the U.S. entering the war, and it gave a vital message that all soldiers needed to read and pay attention to it. Note that you might think that this poster is referring to the infamous "mustard gas" that was used extensively in World War I, but that was not developed until 1917, and this poster predates that. However, there were other chemical weapons being used at the time such as tear gas (which was largely ineffective), chlorine and phosgene. Artist: W.G. Thayer Important Added Info: Note that this is one of a remarkable group of around 100 guaranteed authentic mostly war posters (around 75 war posters, plus 25 others, including political ones) mostly dating from before 1900 through 1945, with 15 from after that date! These were originally acquired by an archive decades ago, and they have been in storage ever since, until they were recently consigned to us. Many of these are the sorts of posters that you can find reproductions of on the Internet, but finding guaranteed originals like these is incredibly difficult (years can go by before these are offered for sale or at auction). This is a very rare opportunity to purchase any of these more than 100 posters! Condition: good. The poster was never folded. It has a 7" tear near the center of the bottom border, and many small tears and some small areas of paper loss in parts of the blank borders (see our image). After a relatively simple linenbacking, the poster will look fantastic! Learn More about condition grades
