An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 11" x 17" [28 x 43 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More) Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla (released in other English-speaking countries as "Monster Meets The Gorilla"), the 1952 William Beaudine New York City science fiction (sci-fi) horror comedy ("Brooklyn chumps become island monkeys in a jungle full of laffs!"; "A horror film that will stiffen you with laughter!"; "A jungle full of Bali-laffs!!") starring Bela Lugosi, Duke Mitchell, Sammy Petrillo (Mitchell and Petrillo are billed as "Introducing Duke Mitchell, Sammy Petrillo"), Charlita, Muriel Landers, Ramona The Chimp, Ray Corrigan, and Steve Calvert (both Corrigan and Calvert were uncredited, but they shared the title role as the gorilla, wearing Corrigan's gorilla costume!). Note that Mitchell and Petrillo were intended to be an imitation of Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin (and Petrillo was even a Jerry Lewis lookalike), but their career really went nowhere! Also note that Crash Corrigan made a REALLY wise investment in the 1930s, when he bought a "gorilla suit". In many of the movies in the 1940s where there is a fake gorilla, it is played by Crash Corrigan, no doubt because he could supply the suit, and in this one movie, he also loaned his suit to Calvert, who used it in 11 other movies, playing uncredited gorillas! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. The pressbook was once lightly folded across the middle. It has light water staining at the top of all pages, but it does not show very much from the front. Learn More about condition grades
