A 1956 Realart Re-release Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36") (Learn More) Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (released in other English-speaking countries as "Abbott and Costello Meet the Ghosts"), the 1948 Charles T. Barton monster horror spoof comedy ("It's a grand New idea for Fun!"; the eighth Universal Frankenstein movie, and this time they added their #1 comedy team to both liven up the series, and to inject comedy; many people fondly remember this as their favorite of the 1940s Frankenstein movies!; "Jeepers! The Creepers are after Bud and Lou!"; "The laughs are MONSTERous! Bud and Lou are in a stew when they tangle with the Titans of Terror!"; "The monsters of menace vs the masters of Mirth!") starring Bud Abbott, Lou Costello (Abbott and Costello), Lon Chaney Jr. ("The Wolf Man played by Lon Chaney"), Bela Lugosi (returning as Dracula after being long absent from the role; "Dracula played by Bela Lugosi"), Glenn Strange (in the title role, playing the Frankenstein monster; "The Monster played by Glenn Strange"), Lenore Aubert, Jane Randolph, Frank Ferguson, Charles Bradstreet, and Vincent Price (in a cute cameo, as the voice of The Invisible Man at the end of the movie!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has never been machine folded! Most insert posters were folded twice horizontally right off of the printing press. It is very difficult to find an unfolded copy of most inserts, especially from before 1970! Condition: very good. The poster was folded at one time in the usual way, but someone long ago put clear tape on the back of each of the three foldlines, and the poster was stored flat (and there is no indication at all that the tape has had the slightest effect on the front of the poster). There were several pairs of tiny staple holes in each corner, and a few in the middle of each border, and the staples in the bottom right corner were roughly removed, causing paper loss in the bottom right blank corner. There also is small paper loss in the bottom left corner caused by rough removal of a staple, and there is a small piece of clear tape on the back of that paper loss. There is a pinhole in the right of the "P" of "JEEPERS" at the top center of the poster and a few staple holes in the left and right corner of the image background. There are three faint horizontal scuff marks in the tagline between the two monsters' faces and there are two tiny faint brown stains in the background to the left of the Wolfman's face. There is a pair of staple holes in the top of the yellow box with the title and there is a faint brown stain in the little cartoon figure of Costello near the bottom of the poster. There are some smudges and faint brown water stains around the edges of the poster including a few that extend into the left of Frankenstein's face. There is a tiny tear in the upper right blank border. THE POSTER IS IN MUCH BETTER CONDITION THAN THE ABOVE MAKES IT SOUND! The poster has never been restored (other than the tape on the back of the folds and the piece of tape on the back of one corner). NONE of the defects described above are particularly noticeable or distracting from any distance away. When viewed from a normal distance of a couple feet away, all you see is the wonderful image (although, of course, any talented restorer could paperback this poster and do tiny touch up to the above defects, and the poster would look even better!). IN THIS SPECIAL HALLOWEEN AUCTION, we have given a more detailed overall condition grade along with more details about the condition described in words. Of course, we could not describe every single defect, plus there are some defects (like separation on folds, tape on the back, extremely tiny pinholes, etc) which can be VERY difficult to see, even in our largest "super-sized" image. Therefore we strongly recommend that you BOTH read our written description of the item, AND ALSO look at our super-sized image to see the extent of the defects that we describe and to examine the poster for minor defects that we did NOT describe.
