Artist: Al Hirschfeld Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this 1940 first release style C one-sheet, and the last one was 18 years ago, when it sold for $1,913! Note that we used to be unsure if the art on this poster was by Al Hirschfeld. His work appears on other posters and the artwork on the style C is very similar to the Hirschfeld art on the half-sheet, but with a few differences. However, The Al Hirschfeld Foundation believes that it IS Hirschfeld artwork and we have listed it as such. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds, with some tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of some folds, with some tears and paper loss around the edges in the blank borders. It had some smudges and faint stains in parts of the white areas. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Note that the restorer left a tiny bit of excess linen around all four sides of the poster (they left a small border in order to protect the poster from handling damage, but they did not leave a larger border, to allow it to more easily fit in a frame).
