An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Sons of Liberty, the 1939 Michael Curtiz Revolutionary War Jewish immigration historical short ("A Warner Bros. Historic Technicolor Featurette"; set during the American Revolution; about the famous real-life Jewish refugee, Haym Salomon, who flees Europe to go to the U.S.; he joins the Sons of Liberty and he then faces persecution from the British after he supplies information to General George Washington and also helps to solve the fledgling country's financial crisis) starring Claude Rains (as Haym Salomon), Gale Sondergaard, Donald Crisp, Montagu Love (as General George Washington), Henry O'Neill, and James Stephenson. Note that this film won the Academy Award for Best Short Subject [Two-Reel] in 1940. Obviously Warner Bros. made this movie in part due to the real life crisis faced by Jews in Germany at this time, to remind all Americans of the debt America owed to Jewish-Americans, dating back to the very birth of the United States! Note that it is likely that Warner Bros. solely made a one-sheet and a set of lobby cards for this movie. Many collectors have spent decades searching for ANY movie posters from this film, with no success. In 2018, we were consigned a one-sheet for this movie, and that is the only poster we have ever auctioned! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that, as noted above, this is the only movie poster from this film we have ever auctioned. We have previously auctioned a few duotone lobby cards, but no posters of any kind. It might be many years before we are consigned any other poster for this film! Condition: good. The poster has a 6" vertical tear one inch to the left of the top crossfold with a 3" tear one inch to the right of it. It has some small tears and tiny bits of paper loss scattered on the vertical fold and much lesser wear on the other folds. It has pinholes around the edges with a few creases and smudges. It has a small circular stain in the background above Rains' hat and stains in the top right blank corner. It has a stain on the back of the lower left of the image that very slightly shows through to the front in the head of the horse and the background next to it. It has paper loss in the middle of the right blank border and someone taped paper to the back of that area. Decades ago, someone put tape on the back of each crossfold and on the back of some of the border defects. While this poster has a number of defects, it absolutely is the sort that responds REALLY well to restoration. After being linenbacked by a top restorer this ultra rare poster will display fantastically, and it will require little paint restoration anywhere in the image. Learn More about condition grades
