An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Ninotchka, the 1939 Ernst Lubitsch Capitalism-vs-Communism romantic comedy ("Garbo laughs in the greatest comedy hit of the year!"; "A new laughing Garbo"; "Garbo Laughs in the Ernst Lubitsch Comedy Production"; "[Don't Pronounce It - See It!]"; "Based on the original story by Melchior Lengyel"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; with a screenplay written by Charles Brackett, Billy Wilder and Walter Reisch; about a Soviet Russian woman who travels to Paris, France on business and discovers there is more to life than what Communism offers) starring Greta Garbo (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Ninotchka), Melvyn Douglas, Ina Claire, Bela Lugosi, Sig Ruman, Felix Bressart (the following year, he had a memorable role in Lubitsch's "The Shop Around the Corner"), and Alexander Granach. Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thicker paper backing, it CAN'T be sent rolled (someone could conceivably roll it or try to do so, but we think it would have a strong chance of lessening its condition, so we will only send it in a very large flat package that measures approximately 16" x 38", unless the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage). What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had tape on the back of the folds that had somewhat bled though to the front. It also had some pinholes, tears and paper loss around the edges with a few stains scattered within the image. Either before or after the poster was backed it was displayed, and the colors in the poster faded noticeably. The poster displays pretty well, and the fading is not very noticeable unless you compare it to an unfaded example, but bear in mind this very significant defect before bidding on this poster.
