An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style A Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) Tin Pan Alley, the 1940 Walter Lang New York City/London England boxing romantic songwriting musical ("Based on a story by Pamela Harris"; about two men who want to be songwriters, but have so little success that one boxes to pay their bills; they meet a pair of singing sisters, and one of them falls in love with one of the men, and she lends the men the money to buy a great song on the condition that she can sing it, but the men double-cross her when a famous star offers to sing it, so she goes to London to join her sister in an act there, and the men enlist in the Army and they get sent to London, where they are reunited with the sisters!) starring Alice Faye, Betty Grable, Jack Oakie, John Payne, Allen Jenkins, Esther Ralston, Nicholas Brothers, and Ben Carter. Note that the meaning of the words "Tin Pan Alley" are pretty forgotten today, but in the days before television, just about every home had a piano, and sheet music sold in the millions! In New York City, starting around 1915, 46th Street and 8th Avenue became known as Tin Pan Alley, because that's where all of the song publishers were located, and every would-be songwriter would dream of selling their songs there! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this three-sheet (one example was only in "fair" condition), and one of those two examples has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still only one of two examples we have ever auctioned (and THIS example is in excellent condition)!
