BOLTER'S INFATUATION linen 39x56 special poster 1912 art of John Bunny flirting, ultra rare! Date Sold 4/16/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Linenbacked Special Movie Poster (measures 39 1/4" x 55 3/4" [100 x 142 cm]) (Learn More) Mr. Bolter's Infatuation, the 1912 George D. Baker silent New York City comedy short (about a man who tries to court an actress and she tells him to meet her at the fake Hotel des Imbeciles, which he tries to do) starring John Bunny (in the title role as Ben Bolter), Charles Eldridge, Lillian Walker, Harry T. Morey, and Rosemary Thelby. Note that John Bunny was one of the greatest early comedy stars, and he had been a stage actor who worked for Vitagraph from 1910 until his unfortunate passing in 1915, appearing in 150 movies for them! Because he passed away so early in the development of film, virtually no posters exist from his films, and lobby cards had not even been invented at the time of his passing. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie until we received this special poster! What makes this poster SO special is that it is from one of the comedy shorts that starred John Bunny, and he is depicted on the poster, and it is only one of two posters we have ever auctioned from John Bunny movies, and he is barely depicted on the other one, while this one has a great image of him! Also note that, in the earliest days of movie distribution, the studios temporarily hit on the idea of creating one poster for use in several European countries, and to make that work, they put the title of the movie in three different languages at the top of the poster! In this case, the languages are English, Spanish, and French. This poster is a stone lithograph, and oddly, it measures very close to the size that later became the standard for Italian one-panels, 39 1/4" x 55 3/4" (and yet they were likely printed in the U.S.). Many years ago, we were consigned a group of approximately 12 these posters that were discovered in a European archive, and we have now been consigned this additional poster (which is not one of the 12 that we were consigned many years ago). This is a rare opportunity to purchase an extremely early movie poster! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had just a few small areas of paper loss on parts of a few folds, with some smudges, stains, and tiny paper loss in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
