An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Style B One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Casey at the Bat, the 1927 Monte Brice silent New York Major League Baseball sports comedy ("Story by Hector Turnbull"; very loosely based on the classic poem by Ernest Lawrence Thayer) starring Wallace Beery (in the title role as 'Home Run' Casey), Ford Sterling, Zasu Pitts, Sterling Holloway, and Spec O'Donnell. Note that this movie owes as much to the larger-than-life Babe Ruth as it does to the classic poem! In it, Casey is a mighty home run hitter, who is signed by the New York Giants, and he starts to live the high life, buying drinks for everyone and romancing showgirls. At the climax of the movie, he comes to bat, and just like the Casey of the poem, he strikes out, but it turns out that the ball was doctored, and the result of the game is overturned! Important Added Info: Note that the image area of this poster is smaller than the size of the one-sheet, which left a blank area at the bottom of the poster, similar to the top of a window card. This was something Paramount experimented with in the mid to late 1920s, which would allow theaters to write show times in that bottom area, but it only lasted a short while. Condition: good to very good. The poster is somewhat brittle and there is much tattering and separation along the foldlines and around the edges. There is writing on the front of the poster in the bottom blank border. There are creases throughout the poster from it being oddly folded at one time. There is a small piece of tape on the front of the poster left of the bottom center crossfold and there is a piece on the front of the left and right of the top edge. Fortunately, the poster's defects are mostly confined to solid color background or border areas and the colors in the artwork are still vibrant and after linenbacking the poster will look fantastic!
