Gitanes are sold in many varieties of strengths and packages. The cigarette was originally made with a darker or brun (brown) tobacco, in contrast to the more widespread blonde. In honor of the name, the packet shows the silhouette of a Spanish gypsy woman playing the tambourine. We are auctioning two different such posters, in two separate auctions. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had a tape stain in the top of the left border and one near the top of the right border. It had a 15" tear in the center of the bottom border, with a 2" tear to the right of that. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
