Stahl passing-for-white romantic tearjerker melodrama (nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; based on the novel by Fannie Hurst) starring Claudette Colbert, Warren William, Louise Beavers (one of the first black African Americans to achieve success in mainstream Hollywood movies), Rochelle Hudson, Ned Sparks, Henry Armetta, Baby Jane, Alan Hale Sr., Fredi Washington (a very light-skinned, very talented black African American actress who refused to try to "pass for white", and who appeared in several important black related movies including "The Emperor Jones" and "Black and Tan"; ironically, she had to have her skin darkened, so she could "pass for black"!), Marilyn Knowlden, and Juanita Quigley. Note that this movie was re-made in 1959 by Ross Hunter and Douglas Sirk with Lana Turner in the lead role! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this script is the continuity and dialogue draft and the screenplay was written by William Hurlbut. Also note that the first interior page and two other interior pages are photocopies on a different kind of paper from the rest of the script, and that the covers were added at a later time. It seems likely that this was the result of last minute revisions that occurred just before filming, and that the replacements were done by the studio. Condition: very good. One of the interior pages had tears in the left that were repaired with clear tape from the back, but otherwise, the script is in pretty nice condition!. Learn More about condition grades
