An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Japanese Movie Poster (measures 31" x 62 1/4") (Learn More) The Affairs of Anatol (also released as "A Prodigal Knight"), the 1921 Cecil B. DeMille silent romantic love triangle all-star comedy ("To Anatol every pretty face was an invitation ---- and he never sent regrets!"; "Cecil B. DeMille's Greatest Production"; "Suggested by Arthur Schnitzler's play and the paraphrase thereof by Granville Barker"; "With the most imposing cast ever assembled in on photoplay"; based on a then-famous play by Arthur Schnitzler, which dealt with a philandering husband who wants any woman other than his wife, and of course, when he finally realizes that he belongs with his wife, she no longer wants him; director/producer Cecil B. DeMille used his clout to cast all of the top Paramount stars of the day in the lead roles!) starring Wallace Reid (in the title role as Anatol Spencer), Gloria Swanson, Elliott Dexter, Bebe Daniels (as Satan Synne, the wickedest woman in New York!), Monte Blue, Wanda Hawley, Theodore Roberts, Agnes Ayres, Theodore Kosloff, Polly Moran, Raymond Hatton, and Julia Faye. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this was an amazing all-star movie for Paramount Pictures! It was directed by Cecil B. DeMille, and featured virtually all of Paramount's very top stars at the time including Gloria Swanson, Wallace Reid, Bebe Daniels, and many more. I have sold the U.S. one-sheet poster and it does not picture these stars, and only lists them by name. But this great Japanese poster has images of all the stars and DeMille! Also note that this is the first and only pre-World War II Japanese poster I have ever seen! It was found in a large collection that was consigned to a poster dealer in Los Angeles around 15 years ago, and he sold it to me, and the person I sold it to then has re-consigned it to me. Apparently, during and after World War II, paper was very scarce in Japan, and it seems likely that the vast majority of the pre-War posters were destroyed. Also note that there is a paper snipe glued to the back of the poster which reads (in typewriter type) as follows: "Minatoza, Nagoya, prepared most attractive poster on 'Anatol'. April 12-18 inclusively". It seems likely this snipe refers to some exhibition in either Japan or the United States that displayed this poster (year unknown)! Finally, note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. This Japanese poster was printed in 3 sections. Condition: good. The poster was stored rolled for many years. There are creases, smudges, tears, and areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster, and the top blank border was trimmed off. There are many creases and smudges throughout the poster (many of the smudges appear to be printing defects) and there are some small tears and areas of paper loss within the image. But the huge majority of the poster is "all there", and any talented restorer could surely linenback this poster and, after proper restoration, it will look fantastic! This week we have given a more detailed overall condition grade along with more details about the condition described in words. Of course, we could not describe every single defect, plus there are some defects (like creasing, tape on the back, extremely tiny pinholes, etc) which can be VERY difficult to see, even in our largest "super-sized" image. Therefore we strongly recommend that you BOTH read our written description of the item, AND ALSO look at our super-sized image to see the extent of the defects that we describe and to examine the poster for minor defects that we did NOT describe.
