Zanuck) starring Henry Fonda (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as Tom Joad), Jane Darwell (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; as Ma Joad), Charley Grapewin (as Grandpa Joad), Russell Simpson (as Pa Joad), John Carradine (as Jim Casy), Dorris Bowdon (as Rose-of-Sharon Rivers, spelled as "Rosasharn" in the movie credits), Zeffie Tilbury (as Grandma Joad), Frank Darien (as Uncle John Joad), Eddie Quillan (as Connie Rivers), John Qualen (as Muley Graves), Kitty McHugh (as the diner waitress, in one of the movie's most poignant scenes), Darryl Hickman (as Winfield Joad), and Shirley Mills (as Ruthie Joad). Note that this is one of the very rare cases where a really great book is turned into a really great movie! Important Added Info: Note that both of the first release one-sheets from this movie have somewhat disappointing images. One is mostly text, and the other has black & white images of the stars. This window card has full-color images of the top cast, and they look worried and angry, just as they did in the film! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. What IS paperbacking? Prior to paperbacking, the poster had many faint smudges and scuffs scattered throughout, with some pinholes, tears, and tiny paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The person who restored the card chose to mostly focus on the border defects, likely preferring the card to show its age with its smudges and scuffs than to have it have a lot of restoration paint all over it, and I agree with that decision.
