An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Personality Poster (measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Carole Lombard was an actress from the 1920s to the 1940s. In her early movies, she mostly had minor supporting roles in comedies, and she was billed as "Carol", but she added the "e" as she became a major star. One of her greatest successes was Twentieth Century, where she played a girl who has never acted, who becomes a great star under the tutelage of Svengali-like John Barrymore. Some of her other movies include: To Be or Not To Be, My Man Godfrey (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Mr. and Mrs. Smith. In the early 1930s, she married William Powell, but they amicably divorced, and several years later, she had a torrid love affair with Clark Gable, and they later married. Lombard died tragically in a 1942 plane crash when she was at the height of her career. She was just 33 years old. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Personality posters were created in the 1910s, 1920s, 1930s, and early 1940s. All of the major studios created sets of these that usually measured exactly 22" x 28". Most often they were taller than they were wide, but occasionally they would be horizontal. It is interesting to note that the image on these posters is often very close to actual life-size! While at least 100 different special personality posters were made in the 1910s, 1920s, 1930s, and early 1940s, few are known to have survived, as few theaters ordered them, and fewer still saved them! The personality posters from Paramount Pictures are far more rare than those from MGM (perhaps because they were printed on a linen-like paper stock, similar to that used by Warner Bros. a few years later). We have never auctioned this one of Carole Lombard before! Note that some personality posters like these are fragile and cannot be rolled, but this one absolutely can be rolled, and it is not fragile. Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded, but it was fairly tightly rolled at one time, causing faint horizontal creases to be scattered through the poster. Some of them are more noticeable than others, but they are not all that distracting. There are some faint stains and the tiniest of tears and tiniest bits of paper loss around the edges.
