Date Sold 4/4/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Style A Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum, the 1940 Lynn Shores Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("Death strikes four times in 18 eerie minutes"; "Death in the electric chair faces Charlie Chan...at the hands of a murderer twelve years dead!"; "Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers") starring Sidney Toler (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Victor Sen Yung (as Jimmy Chan; billed as "Sen Yung"), C. Henry Gordon, Marc Lawrence, Joan Valerie, Marguerite Chapman, Ted Osborne (billed as "Ted Osborn"), and Charles Wagenheim. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Condition: good to very good. Someone must have once rolled this poster and handled it roughly, because there are now faint vertical creases scattered throughout, much more noticeable in the solid background areas. The poster has fine surface paper loss scattered in parts of both folds, more so in the right end of the horizontal fold. It has tiny paper loss at the crossfold. It has a small piece of tape on the front and back of the center of the top blank border and a small piece of paper tape on the back of the center of the left border. There are some tiny pinholes in the center of the top border, with creases in the bottom border and tiny paper loss in the center of the bottom border. Other than the two pieces of tape mentioned above, the poster has had no restoration. There is a small tear in the bottom right of the image in the man's jacket, and a piece of clear tape on the front and back of each top blank corner. Learn More about condition grades
