An Original Vintage Linenbacked English World War II Poster (measures 20" x 30" [51 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) ARP Calling You, the 1938 English World War II (WWII) Home Front poster ("Get into touch with your local council") encouraging citizens to join an Air Raid Precaution organization, and featuring Pat Keely art of a steam whistle. Air Raid Precautions (ARP) refers to a number of organizations and guidelines in the United Kingdom dedicated to the protection of civilians from the danger of air raids. Every local council was responsible for organizing ARP wardens, messengers, ambulance drivers, rescue parties, and liaison with police and fire brigades. With increased enemy bombing during the Blitz, the ARP services were central in reporting and dealing with bombing incidents. They managed the air raid sirens and ensured people were directed to shelters. In 1941 the ARP officially changed its title to Civil Defence Service to reflect the wider range of roles it then encompassed. The poster had some tiny creases and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the folds, with pretty minor border wear. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking.
