An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Russian Movie Poster (measures 23 3/4" x 36 1/2" [60 x 93 cm]) (Learn More) Bronenosets Potyomkin (released in the U.S. as "The Battleship Potemkin"), the classic 1925 Sergei Eisenstein Russian Revolution silent military war thriller (considered by many to be in the handful of greatest movies ever made; the movie includes the famous Odessa steps sequence) starring Ivan Bobrov, Beatrice Vitoldi, N. Poltavseva, Aleksandr Antonov, and Vladimir Barsky If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this Russian movie! Also note that this is a Russian export poster. This means that it was printed in Russia, but was intended to be used when the movie was shown in other countries. It was created with a 5" blank area at the bottom where the country that was showing the movie could print in the title and credits (or they could also print in play dates and theater names). Note that the first release Russian posters that were used in Russia are beyond rare and the known examples are primarily in museums. We have only auctioned four examples of this export poster in all our years of auctioning, and only two in the past 18 years, and those two sold for $1,520 and $1,371. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the vertical fold, with a lesser amount of wear on the horizontal folds. It had some pinholes and slight darkening around the edges. It had a foreign stamp in the top right background area. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, although the restorer left alone the foreign stamp, but unfortunately, after it was backed, the poster was displayed in sunlight, and the reds of the poster faded very significantly. Please bear in mind this very significant defect before bidding on this rare and historic poster. Learn More about condition grades
