Pabst (Georg Wilhelm Pabst) silent German mountain climbing search melodrama starring Leni Riefenstahl, Gustav Diessl, Ernst Petersen, Ernst Udet, and Mizzi Goetzel. Note that some of the action mountain climbing footage from this movie was re-used in several movies by Universal, most impressively in the serial "Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe". Note that Arnold Fanck was a German director who loved skiing and made many "mountain films" that included skiing sequences. In this movie, he was teamed with one of the greatest directors of all time, G.W. Pabst! Also note that this was a silent movie made in 1929 and released in Germany in Austria at that time. In 1930, a dubbed sound version was released in the U.S., and in December 1935, a new "sound version" was given a major re-release in Germany (and it was released in Austria the following year).
