The Last Command, the 1928 Josef von Sternberg silent Russia historical military adventure melodrama (about a Russian general for the Czar's army who lives in poverty after he has fought on the losing side, and an old enemy hires him to play himself in a movie version of the Russian Revolution!) starring Emil Jannings (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; the award was also for his performance in the 1927 film The Way of All Flesh, and this was the only year that multiple roles were considered), Evelyn Brent, William Powell, Jack Raymond, and Fritz Feld NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
