Anna Boleyn (released in the U.S. in 1921 as "Deception"), the 1920 Ernst Lubitsch German silent English royalty romantic melodrama ("This is the girl whose beauty tore the world in twain- whose fascination gained her a crown- whose royal romance shook an empire to its foundations- whose story will be remembered as long as men and women love!"; "A King's Kiss - and then Deception"; "A Graphic Page From Life's Book- that's Deception"; "Under the robes of a queen, the crushed heart of a girl."; "The Greatest Spectacle Ever Filmed! The Greatest Romance Ever Lived!") starring Henny Porten (in the title role as Anna Boleyn), Emil Jannings (as Henry VIII), Paul Hartmann, Ludwig Hartau, and Aud Egede-Nissen. Note that the name of this movie in Germany was "Anna Boleyn". That historical figure is ALWAYS referred to as "Anne Boleyn" in modern times (we don't know when and why it changed)! Also note that Henny Porten was one of the most important German actresses of all time, but because she solely made German movies, she is almost unknown in the U.S. She started acting in 1906 at the age of 16, and over a 50 year period she made an amazing 180 movies. During the Nazi era she fell out of favor with the ruling party because she refused to divorce her Jewish husband, and she only made 10 movies between 1931 and 1949. Surely a movie could and should be made of her life! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
