A 1957 Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More)

La Donna del Fiume (released in the U.S. in 1956 as "Woman of the River"), the 1954 Mario Soldati Italian/French crime melodrama ("Sophia Loren is all woman in Woman of the River") starring Sophia Loren ("The anAtomic Bomb from Italy"), Gerard Oury, Lise Bourdin, Rik Battaglia, Giorgio Bassani, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Florestano Vancini, Antonio Altoviti, and Mario Soldati. Note that this is one of the many early movies that Sophia Loren appeared in in the early 1950s. After it was released in 1954, she did not gain widespread international notice until the following year, and it was not until 1956 that this was released in the U.S., as "Woman of the River". After she became a superstar in 1957 with "Boy on a Dolphin", the movie was released again in the U.S. So there are both 1956 and 1957 U.S. posters from this movie, and it had an entirely different ad campaign each time!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this 1957 re-release insert!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had some minor wear on the folds. It had some creases and small tears around the edges and some smudges and scuffs scattered in the image. It had a long diagonal crease in the entire upper left, going through the end of the letters at top left. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame.
