An Original Vintage Comic Book/Magazine (measures approximately 6 3/4" x 10" [17 x 25 cm]) (Learn More)

Humbug was a humor magazine/comic published from 1957 to 1958. Edited by Harvey Kurtzman, the magazine took satirical jabs at movies, television, advertising and various artifacts of popular culture, from cereal boxes to fashion photographs. Nine of the eleven issues were published in a black-and-white comic book-sized format. The magazine came about after Harvey Kurtzman left Mad Magazine after a bitter disagreement with Bill Gaines. He first did the magazine Trump for Hugh Hefner, publisher of Playboy, but Hefner had financial difficulties and folded the magazine after two issues. Kurtzman next convinced a number of artists, including some major EC artists, to invest with him in this magazine, Humbug, which was intended to be a comic book version of the United Artists movie studio, a comic book published by artists, and Hugh Hefner leased them office space at a very discounted rate, because he felt guilty after ending Trump. Sadly, the magazine did not sell well, almost surely due to poor distribution, and Kurtzman folded it after eleven issues. After this, Kurtzman started doing Little Annie Fanny, a sexy comic strip in Playboy magazine (with old friend Bill Elder) and it was in Playboy from 1962 to 1988!
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this comic book/magazine!

Please note that we don't use a "comic guide" grading system, and OUR grading scale is completely different from standard comic book grading. Our "very good" is completely different from a comic book graded "very good". Note that this comic book/magazine will be sent to the winning bidder in a brand new Mylite2 protective sleeve and a half-back 100% acid-free backing board.

Note that we have pictured both covers and some interior page of this comic, which means that you can hopefully see most defects the comic has, AND get a good sense of its condition. While we gave the comic an overall condition grade (and sometimes describe the defects in words) please rely on the actual images of the comic we provide here to help you decide what YOU think its condition is, and then bid or not bid based on what you are seeing in the images. And if you have ANY doubt as to what the condition of the comic is, or whether you want it in the condition it is is, then please do not bid, as we do not want any retracted bids or returns if at all possible. If in doubt, do not bid!.

Condition: good, with old restoration. The comic had a 1 1/2" tear in the bottom center of the front cover that has tiny tape on the back to "restore" it. The spine is slightly rolled.
