An Undated (probably 1950s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Danish Movie Poster (measures 25 1/4" x 33 1/3" [64 x 8 cm]) (Learn More) King Kong, the classic 1933 Merian C. Cooper & Ernest B. Schoedsack Africa New York City giant ape fantasy romantic love triangle adventure horror thriller ("'The most awesome thriller of all time' the one and only"; "Not beast.. Not human.... Not devil.. But all three magnified! Raging.. Roaring.. Crushing.. Killing.."; "Strangest story ever conceived by man!"; "Out-leaping the maddest imaginings! Out-thrilling the wildest thrills!"; "See the living, fighting monsters of Creation's dawn rediscovered in the world today!"; "See the death-fight between giant ape and prehistoric dinosaur... the most amazing combat since the world began!"; "See the ape as big as a battleship wrecking New York!"; "Unique..! Thrilling! Startling!"; "From an idea conceived by Edgar Wallace & Merian C. Cooper"; based on the story by Edgar Wallace, with incredible special effects by Willis O'Brien) starring Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong (as Carl Denham), Bruce Cabot, Frank Reicher, and Sam Hardy NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: This is an extremely mysterious poster! It is undated, but we believe it to be from a 1950s Danish re-release. Note that the artist drew Fay Wray with one of her breasts having popped out of her dress, a scene that definitely does NOT appear anywhere in the movie (or on any other poster we are aware of, except it is also on the tiny Danish program!). We sold a slightly different Danish poster with the same image and everything about it was the same, EXCEPT it had blue coloring that this poster did not have, and this poster has the unusual grid of lines that the other does not have. We would think that the other poster might be from the 1950s, and that this poster is likely from another 1950 release (this movie was re-released over and over in the U.S. and many other countries during those years), but that is strictly a guess. To add to the mystery, both posters were printed with a Danish title in the area of Kong's armpit and chest, and both posters had that area painted over with black paint! If anyone knows more about these posters, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept the many uncertainties about its origins. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster was never folded. It had a Danish title written in a rectangular area that measures 7" x 9" in the upper left, and that title was painted over with black paint. There is a "grid" of black lines over most of the image, and that is IN THE PRINTING, and not something that was added to the poster. There are tears and some areas of paper loss in the borders. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. The person who backed poster did some slight border restoration, but otherwise left the poster as it is. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have further restoration performed. Learn More about condition grades
