An Undated (probably 1950s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Folded French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 47" x 62 1/2" [119 x 159 cm]) (Learn More)

Ace in the Hole (also released as "The Big Carnival"), the classic 1951 Billy Wilder crime newspaper journalism film noir ("Written by Billy Wilder, Lesser Samuels and Walter Newman"; about a washed-up newspaperman who finds a man trapped in a cave-in and delays his rescue to get a better story!) starring Kirk Douglas, Jan Sterling, Robert Arthur (billed as "Bob Arthur"), Porter Hall, Frank Cady, and Richard Benedict. Most people believe that this movie was first released under the title "Ace in the Hole", but that when it was not very well received, the studio quickly created all new paper with the new title "The Big Carnival" (perhaps to confuse people as to the subject matter of the movie). Most collectors treat the movie paper with either title as "first release", but some collectors consider the material with "Ace in the Hole" to be less common, and therefore more desirable!

Artist: d'apres Roger Soubie
Important Added Info: Note that this poster has sometimes been mistakenly sold as an original 1951 release. But it is actually from an undated 1950s or early 1960s re-release. While the two posters look similar, the original has more vivid colors and there are differences in the layout and sizes of the writing. Also note that the poster is signed "d'apres Roger Soubie", which means that the unknown French artist created the poster in the style of the original French poster by Roger Soubie, but that Soubie did not actually do this art.

Condition: good to very good. There is white conservation tape on the back of parts of the foldlines that were on the outside when the poster was fully folded.
