An Original Vintage Piece of Original Art (measures 18 1/2" x 25 3/4" [47 x 65 cm]) (Learn More)

Bill Ward was a cartoonist from the 1940s to the 1990s. While best known for his creation of the risque comic character Torchy in 1944, after he finished serving in World War II. Torch was one of the first comic strips to feature "good girl" art, something Ward would remain associated with for the rest of his career. Ward also drew backgrounds for for Fawcett Comics, including the pulp magazine features Doc Savage and The Shadow! Starting in the mid 1950s, he did a lot of work doing "risque" cartoons for "men's" magazines, although he continued doing some comic book work as well. He passed away in 1998 at the age of 79.
Artist: Bill Ward
Important Added Info: Note that we know that this is a Bill Ward original for a cartoon that he drew for a men's magazine, but we don't know exactly when it appears. Our best guess is the 1950s. Note that the caption at the bottom reads "Sorry, but my husband is still making payments on our old carpet sweeper!". Above it are two rejected captions that were both written out but then crossed out (see our image). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Also note that while this could conceivably be rolled, we will send it in a very large flat package that measures 21" x 28". Please bear that extra shipping cost in mind BEFORE placing a bid on this!

Condition: good to very good. The art was drawn on a thin paper that was taped to heavy illustration board, with clear tape on all four sides. The tape has yellowed and dried out, so that the drawing is no longer attached to the board (see our image).
