Appears in Vintage Hollywood Posters 6 CATALOG SOLD OUT The image at right appears in the auction catalog we published as shown above and was sold long ago and we do NOT have it available for purchase. Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Chinatown Nights, the 1929 William A. Wellman Asia Tong War romantic crime melodrama ("From Samuel Ornitz' story Tong War"; "A Talking Romance"; about a society woman who falls in love with the white leader of an Asian gang, and she ruins her life, but he truly loves her, and he nobly sacrifices himself so she can regain her former status) starring Wallace Beery, Florence Vidor, Warner Oland (playing an evil Oriental; this is ironic since he later became famous as "Charlie Chan" in the 20th Century Fox series!), Jack McHugh and Jack Oakie. Note that it was after this movie that Florence Vidor retired, and the movie was shot as a silent, and she quit before it could have sound added, and she refused to return to do the dubbing, and it was dubbed by a different actress instead (a very similar thing happened to Louise Brooks with "The Canary Murder Case", which was made the same year by Paramount)! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. The poster is linenbacked; prior to restoration the poster had some small tears and a few small areas of paper loss in the vertical foldline; there were some of tears and creases in the horizontal foldlines; other than the above defects, the image area was in pretty nice condition; there were small areas of paper loss, tears, creases, and smudges in the blank borders; the person who restored the poster put new paper over much of the blank borders (it was very expertly done and most people would not realize it unless it was specifically shown to them); there was really first rate restoration in the image area; you can see it close up but from any distance away it pretty much vanishes and this rare and wonderful poster looks great!
