The Last Temptation of Christ, the 1988 Martin Scorsese (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) controversial historic Biblical religious melodrama ("Based on the Novel by Nikos Kazantzakis"; "Screenplay by Paul Schrader"; this movie was controversial both for its depiction of a very human Christ, and for the rather bizarre screenplay, which included Biblical figures talking in modern day English!) starring Willem Dafoe (in the title role as Jesus Christ), Harvey Keitel (as Judas), Barbara Hershey (as Mary Magdalene), Harry Dean Stanton, David Bowie (as Pontius Pilate), Paul Greco, Steve Shill, Verna Bloom, and Andre Gregory (as John the Baptist)
