An Original Vintage Magazine (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm]) (Learn More)

Contact was a Ron Barlow fanzine adzine comic book magazine which was published in 1968 and included ads and previews for upcoming comic books. Note that the Comics Buyer's Guide began in 1971, and was a free "adzine" that made its money selling ads to dealers and was widely distributed to collectors (for free at first, but later they charged for it). It became a massively successful enterprise! But three years before that publication began, Ron Barlow had the exact same idea with this publication, and he got his longtime Baltimore friend, Bernie Wrightson, to do an illustration for the cover (as well as a full-page ad for the fanzine "Prism" with an ad for Wrightson's strip in that issue), and he got a full-page ad from Buddy Sanders, the same person who owns the highly successful website mycomicshop.com! But there weren't enough fans in 1968 to support the venture, and Ron stopped publishing. As with many of his other great ideas, he was just "ahead of his time".
Artist: Bernie Wrightson
Important Added Info: Note that, as noted above, this publication was created in 1968 by Ron Barlow, and examples of it are extremely scarce. The example offered here was consigned to us from the estate of Ron Barlow, and it is the example of it that was in his possession from 1968 until his untimely passing. It has an address of a collector in England written on the cover, so it seems that Ron planned to mail it to that person, but never did!

Condition: fair to good. There is staining in the bottom right of the cover affecting the bottom of the Wrightson art and surface paper loss in the bottom left corner of the cover, with some stains around the edges (see our images).
