An Original Vintage Autographed 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Publicity Still (Learn More) Mel Torme (born Melvin Howard Torme) was a singer from the 1940s to the 1990s who appeared in a few movies. He was born in 1925, and was singing since he was 3, and was a musical prodigy. As a teenager he played the drums in Chico Marx's band, and in the early 1940s he formed his own group, "The Meltones", and went solo in the late 1940s. His first acting role was in the 1943 Frank Sinatra movie, "Higher and Higher", when he was just 18. He also wrote several books including biographies of Judy Garland and Buddy Rich, and he also wrote popular music, including The Christmas Song. He had a legendary smooth voice, and he was nicknamed "The Velvet Fog"! Torme passed away in 1999 at the age of 73. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by Mel Torme! Also note that many celebrities kept multiple 8" x 10" (or smaller) copies of good publicity images of themselves to sign for fans, and also many memorabilia shops sold such copy stills themselves. While they are not original theater-used stills, they are usually excellent clear copies, with a great shot of that celebrity in their heyday, which, when signed by the celebrity, makes for a wonderful framed picture on any fan's wall! About the Collection this Item Comes From Note that this item was consigned to us by a man who was a major movie memorabilia dealer from the 1980s on. During that time, he would regularly purchase collections of movie memorabilia from both dealers and collectors, and in some of those collections he purchased autographed items, and over the years he did not re-sell any of the autographed items. Now he has gathered up together all of his autographed items and consigned them to us. So all of the items from this consignor we are auctioning were purchased by this dealer from longtime dealers and collectors, and we feel it is quite likely that the autograph on this item is authentic!
