An Autographed Card (measures 2" x 3 1/4" [5 x 8 cm]; glued to a piece of paper that measures 4 3/4" x 6") (Learn More) Julia Ward Howe was an author and poet from the 1830s to the early 1900s. She is best known for writing "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" in 1861, after meeting Abe Lincoln. She later became editor of Woman's Journal, and was involved in the women's suffrage movement and abolitionism. Howe passed away in 1910 at the age of 91. Important Added Info: Note that this item has been personally autographed (signed) by Julia Ward Howe! It was glued to a piece of paper that measures 4 3/4" x 6". It could be matted with a vintage or repro still and framed together to make a cool display! Note that this is one of a wonderful collection of 36 items that were assembled by a collector decades ago, mostly from RR Auctions, which has auctioned signed items since 1976. The person who purchased these items passed away several years ago, and while he did not save most of the certificates of authenticity he received when he bought these signed items, almost all were purchased between the late 1970s and the early 1990s, and we think it is extremely likely that the autograph on this item is genuine. In our last auction, we auctioned around 90 items from this same consignor. Now we are auctioning the last of this wonderful collection, and after this, there will be no more left to auction! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good. The signature is on an index card, which has been lightly glued onto a larger sheet of paper (it could easily be removed). Learn More about condition grades
