eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 9j0956 TARZAN THE APE MAN LC 1932 c/u of Maureen O'Sullivan smiling at Neil Hamilton, ultra rare! Date Sold 8/3/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Tarzan, the Ape Man, the 1932 W.S. Van Dyke jungle adventure action melodrama ("The thrill of thrills!"; "The producers of 'Trader Horn' have again brought out of the African jungle another great romantic thriller!"; "Based upon the Characters created by Edgar Rice Burroughs") starring Johnny Weissmuller (in the title role as Tarzan), Neil Hamilton, Maureen O'Sullivan (as Jane), C. Aubrey Smith, Doris Lloyd, Ray Corrigan, Jack Leonard (both as uncredited apes!) and Cheetah (played by an uncredited chimpanzee). Note that Crash Corrigan and Jack Leonard both made a REALLY wise investment in the 1930s, when they acquired "gorilla suits". In many of the movies in the 1930s and 1940s where there is a fake gorilla, it is played by either Crash Corrigan or Jack Leonard, no doubt because they could supply the suits! Of course, this was one of the most successful "franchises" in movie history, with several sequels with Weissmuller and O'Sullivan, and then more movies with just Weissmuller alone (after O'Sullivan left the franchise), and then other actors took up the lead role many different times! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY first release U.S. movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. Until June of 2021, we had never auctioned any first release lobby cards! In June of 2021, we sold the title card for $5,808 and a scene card for $810. Now we have this second scene, which is the only other card from this movie that we have been consigned! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: fair to good. The entire card has paint stains around the edges. It also has tack holes, smudges, and small stains around the edges. There are several small stains scattered in the image, but not in the stars' faces. This is the sort of card that responds really well to professional restoration. It is likely that much or all of the smudges and stains can be removed through chemical means, and of course, most of the pinholes are in the blank borders, and after proper restoration, the card will display well. Please look closely at our images of the front and back of this card before bidding. Note that this card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
