An Original Undated (probably 1947; from the first Belgian release of this movie) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Belgian Movie Poster (measures 14 1/4" x 18 1/4") (Learn More) Ernest Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls, the 1943 Sam Wood romantic Spanish Civil War adventure melodrama ("From the celebrated novel by Ernest Hemingway"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Gary Cooper (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as Robert Jordan), Ingrid Bergman (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; "as Maria"), Akim Tamiroff (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; "as Pablo"), Arturo de Cordova, Joseph Calleia, Katina Paxinou (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; "as Pilar"), Vladimir Sokoloff, and Mikhail Rasumny NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good to very good. The poster originally had a blank top that was neatly trimmed off (this is commonly done with Belgian posters, similar to how the blank top is trimmed off of U.S. window cards). The poster was folded once in each direction and there was small paper loss at the crossfold and creases, scuffs, and a few tiny tears on the foldlines. There was paper loss in Bergman's cheek by her left eye, and a tear extending into the left edge of her eye. There was a semi-circular tear in the "N" of "INGRID" in the credits. There was a 2" tear near the middle of the left border. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see some signs of the restoration of the above defects (if I owned this great poster, I would have a talented restorer do additional restoration to it, which they could probably do without re-backing the poster).
