An Autographed 2" x 3" Card (Learn More) Carole Lombard was an actress from the 1920s to the 1940s. In her early movies, she mostly had minor supporting roles in comedies, and she was billed as "Carol", but she added the "e" as she became a major star. One of her greatest successes was Twentieth Century, where she played a girl who has never acted, who becomes a great star under the tutelage of Svengali-like John Barrymore. Some of her other movies include: To Be or Not To Be, My Man Godfrey (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Mr. and Mrs. Smith. In the early 1930s, she married William Powell, but they amicably divorced, and several years later, she had a torrid love affair with Clark Gable, and they later married. Lombard died tragically in a 1942 plane crash when she was at the height of her career. She was just 33 years old. Important Added Info: Note that this item has been personally autographed (signed) by Carole Lombard! It was cut out of an autograph book and then glued onto a heavy board, and at some point, the board was trimmed around the autograph and taped to a page with a piece of tape on the top and bottom. The card could be matted with a vintage or repro still and framed together to make a cool display! About the Collection this Item Comes From Note that this item was consigned to us by a man who was a major movie memorabilia dealer in the 1970s and 1980s. During that time, he was approached by an elderly man named Sterling H. Bond, who had collected autographs for many years (starting in the early 1930s), and who sold the dealer his entire collection. Bond had tracked down many important Hollywood celebrities and obtained autographed items (often personalized to him), and he also had autographs from celebrities who were not in the film business (including famous politicians!). The dealer was so impressed with this collection that rather than sell it item by item, he began collecting autographs himself, sending celebrities items by Registered Mail which they then autographed and returned to him! He also purchased a few autographed items from top autograph dealers of the 1970s and 1980s. Now, decades later, the dealer consigned these autographed items to us, and we have auctioned almost all of them in our previous signed auctions. The remaining items we are auctioning for this consignor were either obtained by long time collector Sterling H. Bond, or were obtained by this memorabilia dealer, and we feel certain that the autograph on this item is authentic! Condition: good. The autograph was cut out of an autograph book and then glued onto a heavy board, and at some point, the board was trimmed around the autograph and taped to a page with a piece of tape on the top and bottom.
