Date Sold 7/30/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 7 1/2" x 10" [19 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) The Bride of Frankenstein, the classic 1935 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller sequel ("The Monster Demands a Mate!"; "The monster thriller"; "Who will be The Bride of Frankenstein. Who will dare?"; the second of the Universal Frankenstein movies, and the only example I am aware of where a sequel is clearly superior to the original movie!; this is James Whale's masterpiece, and almost everyone agrees it is among the finest movies ever made, regardless of genre) starring Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Colin Clive (as Dr. Henry Frankenstein), Valerie Hobson (as the bride of Dr. Frankenstein), Elsa Lanchester (in the title role as the bride of the Frankenstein monster, and also as Mary Shelley!), Una O'Connor, Ernest Thesiger (as Dr. Pretorius), E.E. Clive, O.P. Heggie, John Carradine, Dwight Frye (as Karl), Gavin Gordon, and Neil Fitzgerald NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: What a wonderful still this is! It shows a candid image of director James Whale (making notes in his script) standing by the "mechanical stand-in" for Karloff's monster (which is actually a metal tripod with a suit jacket on top of it and a bust of the monster attached to the top of the jacket. It looks like the head is the correct height for Karloff, so it was probably used for planning photography. It has a date stamp on the back of "JAN 21 1935". We have only auctioned this still once before, and the person who purchased it from us for $431 has reconsigned it, so this is still the only example we have ever auctioned! Also note that this still has been trimmed and it now measures 7 1/2" x 10" [19 x 25 cm]. Also note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock. Condition: good to very good. The right blank border was neatly trimmed off. There are creases in the lower right background area. Otherwise, the still is in nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
