Date Sold 12/12/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) Brick Bradford: Amazing Soldier of Fortune, the 1947 Spencer Gordon Bennet science fiction (sci-fi) action adventure serial ("Based upon the King Features Syndicate's tremendously popular cartoon strip"; "Fiendish murder-trap!"; "A Columbia Serial"; "Another sizzling serial scoop... with another adventurer beloved by multi-millions of thrill fans!") starring Kane Richmond (in the title role "as Brick Bradford"), Rick Vallin ("as Sandy"), Linda Johnson ("as June"), Pierre Watkin ("as Salisbury"), Charles Quigley, John Merton, Noel Neill, and Wheeler Oakman. Note that this movie was based on a popular comic strip that debuted in 1933, which was written by William Ritt, a journalist, and drawn by Clarence Gray. It was pure science fiction fantasy, and it predated Flash Gordon by a year, but it never achieved the same kind of popularity in the United States, although it became quite popular in other countries, including Italy and France (where he was known as "Luc Bradefer", which is "Luke Ironarm"!). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this three-sheet, and of course, three-sheets and six-sheets from serial movies of the 1940s are far more rare than the one-sheets! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The poster had pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges. It had paper loss at some crossfolds and tears and small paper loss on parts of several folds. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was fairly well backed, but the restorer did not do restoration to the blank border defects, likely assuming they would not show when the poster was displayed. Unfortunately, after the poster was backed, it was displayed, and it faded a large amount. The title area was originally red, and it has severely faded to a yellowish orange, and most of the other red tinting of the poster has completely vanished. This is obviously a very major defect, so bear it in mind before bidding on this poster (one would obviously prefer to find a better condition example, but we have never auctioned another example of this poster).
