An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Heart of the Rio Grande, the 1942 William Morgan Texas singing cowboy western musical ("Hear Gene Sing... 'Deep In The Heart of Texas'"; "Based on a a story by Newlin B. Wildes") starring Gene Autry, Smiley Burnette, Fay McKenzie, Edith Fellows, Pierre Watkin, Joe Strauch Jr., William Haade, and The Jimmy Wakely Trio. Note that in 1941, the producers had the fun idea of giving sidekick Smiley Burnette (who played "Frog") a youthful sidekick of his own, and they hired young Joe Strauch Jr., who played that part in six of these movies, and naturally, his character was nicknamed "Tadpole"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked and during the backing process, its defects were repaired and it now looks nice. From any reasonable viewing distance, you can't see what restoration was done. It may have had only very minor defects, or it may have had more significant defects that were well restored. It is possible that you can see SOME slight traces of the restoration from a distance, but if so, we try clearly note it below. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had paper loss in the face of Smiley Burnette at top center and an area around his face had cuts in it (it is difficult to say exactly what was wrong with this area). Other than this defect, the poster had small paper loss at the crossfolds and had tattered blank borders. The poster was very expertly restored, and the restorer repaired Burnette's face, and did such a nice job, that it is difficult to see, and even on close inspection it is difficult to know exactly what was done! Some of the blank borders have had new paper laid over them (since this is solely blank paper, most collectors do not think it is much of a defect). Overall, the poster has had significant restoration in the one area described above, but otherwise has had little restoration. It was well backed, and displays quite nicely!
