An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) The Prince and the Showgirl, the 1957 Laurence Olivier English/U.S. romantic rich-man-poor-beautiful-girl comedy ("There's only one Marilyn Monroe but there isn't one Marilyn Monroe picture that teases and tickles like Marilyn Monroe starring with Laurence Olivier in Warner Bros.' 'The Prince and the Showgirl'"; "Some countries have a medal for Everything"; "A Film by Marilyn Monroe Pictures Inc."; "Screen Play by Terence Rattigan"; about a showgirl in a mythical European country, who causes scandal when a prince tries to seduce her) starring Marilyn Monroe (in the title role as Elsie), Laurence Olivier (in the title role as the Prince Regent), Sybil Thorndike, Richard Wattis, David Horne, Jeremy Spenser, Jean Kent, Vera Day, and Margot Lister NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good to very good. This poster was linenbacked, and it had fairly significant defects which were somewhat repaired during the linenbacking process (we describe both the defects as well as the quality of the restoration below). You should also look at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). the poster had tiny holes at the crossfolds; there were two long slightly diagonal creases; one ran from the top crossfold to the left edge of Monroe's shoulder and the other ran from the left edge of Monroe's shoulder to the bottom crossfold; there was a diagonal crease in the top right corner extending into the tagline; there was a diagonal crease running from the top of the poster down through the center of the top tagline area; there were small tears and extra creases across the bottom foldline; there were diagonal creases in the bottom middle of the poster. The poster is in better condition than the above makes it sound! There were many creases, but very little actual paper loss. The poster was really expertly linenbacked and the above defects were well corrected. You can see them from close up, but from any distance away, the poster looks quite nice and there is very little paint restoration on the poster! Learn More about condition grades
