Hippodrome: Skobeleff, the 1888 French poster promoting an event to be held at the Hippodrome au pont de l'Alma (Hippodrome at the Alma Bridge) in Paris, France. The event had something to do with the deceased Russian general Mikhail Skobelev, famous for his conquest of Central Asia and heroism during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. The Hippodrome at the Alma Bridge was a very large and famous Parisian entertainment establishment open from 1877 to 1892. If anyone knows more about this event, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Artist: Jules Jean Cheret

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at some crossfolds and some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on parts of some folds. It had paper loss near the middle of the left blank border and some tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed onto a thin linen, but the thin linen now has some creases around the excess.
