An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Double Indemnity, the classic 1944 Billy Wilder (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) insurance fraud murder romantic crime film noir ("Paramount's terrific drama of an unholy love and an almost perfect crime!"; "From the Moment they met it was Murder!": "Screenplay by Billy Wilder and Raymond Chandler"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; based on the novel by James M. Cain; about a man who works for an insurance company who meets the wife of a rich man who seduces him into helping her kill her husband, but they have to make it look like an accident so that they can collect double on his life insurance policy!) starring Fred MacMurray (as Walter Neff), Barbara Stanwyck (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; as Phyllis Dietrichson), Edward G. Robinson (as Barton Keyes), Porter Hall, Jean Heather, Tom Powers, Byron Barr, Richard Gaines, John Philliber, and Fortunio Bonanova NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare and desirable poster, made more desirable by the fact that the one-sheet has a pink background, and is not all that well designed! We have only auctioned three examples of this poster, but only one in the past 15 years, and that one, which we auctioned 7 years ago, sold for $3,100. Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. The poster has a tiny bit of fine surface paper loss on the bottom fold. It has a line of bits of surface paper loss in the bottom blue background area, but fortunately, it does not go into the letters of the title (it is under each of the words of the title; see our image). The poster was framed, and someone put 1" wide tape on the back of all four borders, but it was not for a restoration purpose, so it likely kept the poster in place in the frame. The entire back of the poster has darkened. It affects the front of all four borders, mostly in the extreme outer edges, but also somewhat in the rest of the borders. While I would think some collectors could happily display and enjoy this extremely rare and desirable poster as it is, I would think it would make more sense to have it professionally restored. That would fix the tiny surface paper loss described above, and also stabilize the poster onto an acid-free backing. Either way, it will look incredible on the new owner's wall!
